health care, I've been doing research.

Some time ago, you stated/implied that people in socialist 
countries, with socialised health care systems didn't get to 
choose there doctors. Untrue. You mentioned Sweden as an 
example, I checked... Wrong again.

The current problems with the Canadian health care system are 
generated by the change to a privatised model (hyperinflation of 
insurance costs contiubuting to other expenses thus deminishing 
availability). While Canada's health care system wasn't the best 
(reguardless of what system one has, incompetance will screw it 
up), you implication that socialism was the prime cause of it's 
woes was fraudulent.

You also fail to recognise that privatised/capitalist systems 
are still bound by bureacracy (or analogues thereof). To imply 
that bureacracy (or the "paperwork" of) is endemic to socialism 
is again mis-leading. Socialism does not equal extra unnecessary 
paperwork. Such things are a function of the managerial system 
in place, be it socialist or capitalist.

A person's diagnosis is a function of the competance of a 
doctor, you may be thinking perhaps of a non-democratic 
communist regime. IF this is the case, AND if you were assuming 
that the said government instigated some special (deceptive)
policy lowering the priority of certain illnesses THEN your 
statement would be true. However, if you were again refereing to 
Australia's previous socialised health care system, Sweden's, 
Germany's, New Zealand's etc. then your statement is flat out 
untrue. The proceedure for diagnosis / quality of diagnosis is a 
function of science and the hypocratic oath. Diagnosis in the 
said countries only differs (ever so marginally) from the US by 
means of scientific thinking, with no reguards for politics. 
Indeed, the means of diagnosis within Australia fundamentally 
have not changed with the transition from a socialised system.

Again, please qualify/support your suppositions with facts.

As for controling the masses, socialism (ideologically) only 
seeks to control the playing field with obvious complaints from 
minority groups (the rich etc) who lose their unfair advantage. 
While you are yet to provide an example (your examples have 
either been false assumptions or just not an example of 
socialism at work), socialism does screw up, either as a funtion 
of incompetance or of non-democratic sentiment. Newsflash, both 
socialist and capitalist regimes are suceptible to these forces 
(albeit through differnt means).

poor, you are mislead. Here in Illinois the poor are eligible 
for medical cards that insure treatment at all medical & dental 
facuilities in a emergency. They are more restricted in non-
emergency situations, but so am I with HMO health insurance 
which, by the way, is getting very expensive. I can speak only 
for my state from actual experience. The night I saw a combative 
drunken loser with a small cut on his head treated before my 
daughter who was having a reaction to the antibiotic Ceclor was 
the fucking end of "pity the poor" for me. A loudmouth homeless 
looking drunken fool has a 2 inch cut on his head, fuck him, let 
the stupid motherfucker bleed to death and make the world that 
much better. My daughter's throat was swelling inside and she 
could hardly breath. 

So in conclusion, I say survival of the fittest is the natural 
state of life and I piss on all these liberal "needle exchange" 
programs and such other stupidity. I believe in help for those

In case the lingo I'm using is the problem, a "privatised model" 
is a capitalist model. Canada, like Australia, no longer has a 
socialised health care system.

I'll explain the inverse of this pricipal this time. During 
Australia's last stint of a socialist government, we never faced 
the level of (poor) Buracracy that Americans have been under 
since Regan onwards (both democrat and republican regimes). 
Neither have New Zealand or oven Sweden. This is based on an 
income to outcome ratio, and general levels of dis-satisfation. 
There were always issues with the regulations of course. The 
major gripe in these countries was with the taxation levels, not 
the Buracracy.

answer's as to who, what and why was behind the madness that

Were Israelis Detained on Sept. 11 Spies?



June 21   Millions saw the horrific images of the World
Trade Center attacks, and those who saw them won't forget
them. But a New Jersey homemaker saw something that 
morning that prompted an investigation into five young 
Israelis and their possible connection to Israeli 
intelligence.

Maria, who asked us not to use her last name, had a view 
of the World Trade Center from her New Jersey apartment 
building. She remembers a neighbor calling her shortly 
after the first plane hit the towers.
She grabbed her binoculars and watched the destruction 
unfolding in lower Manhattan. But as she watched the 
disaster, something else caught her eye.

Maria says she saw three young men kneeling on the roof of 
a white van in the parking lot of her apartment building. 
"They seemed to be taking a movie," Maria said.

The men were taking video or photos of themselves with the 
World Trade Center burning in the background, she said. 
What struck Maria were the expressions on the men's faces. 
"They were like happy, you know   They didn't look shocked 
to me. I thought it was very strange," she said. 

She found the behavior so suspicious that she wrote down 
the license plate number of the van and called the police. 
Before long, the FBI was also on the scene, and a statewide
bulletin was issued on the van. 

The plate number was traced to a van owned by a company called 
Urban Moving. Around 4 p.m. on Sept. 11, the van was spotted on 
a service road off Route 3, near New Jersey's Giants Stadium. A 
police officer pulled the van over, finding five men, between 22 
and 27 years old, in the vehicle. The men were taken out of the 
van at gunpoint and handcuffed by police. 

The arresting officers said they saw a lot that aroused their 
suspicion about the men. One of the passengers had $4,700 in 
cash hidden in his sock. Another was carrying two foreign 
passports. A box cutter was found in the van. But perhaps the 
biggest surprise for the officers came when the five men 
identified themselves as Israeli citizens. 


 We Are Not Your Problem 

According to the police report, one of the passengers told 
the officers they had been on the West Side Highway in 
Manhattan "during the incident"   referring to the World 
Trade Center attack. The driver of the van, Sivan Kurzberg,
told the officers, "We are Israeli. We are not your problem. 
Your problems are our problems. The Palestinians are the 
problem." The other passengers were his brother Paul 
Kurzberg, Yaron Shmuel, Oded Ellner and Omer Marmari. 

When the men were transferred to jail, the case was 
transferred out of the FBI's Criminal Division, and into 
the bureau's Foreign Counterintelligence Section, which is 
responsible for espionage cases, ABCNEWS has learned. 

One reason for the shift, sources told ABCNEWS, was that 
the FBI believed Urban Moving may have been providing 
cover for an Israeli intelligence operation. 

After the five men were arrested, the FBI got a warrant 
and searched Urban Moving's Weehawken, N.J., offices. 

The FBI searched Urban Moving's offices for several hours, 
removing boxes of documents and a dozen computer hard 
drives. The FBI also questioned Urban Moving's owner. 
His attorney insists that his client answered all of the 
FBI's questions. But when FBI agents tried to interview 
him again a few days later, he was gone. 

Three months later 2020's cameras photographed the inside 
of Urban Moving, and it looked as if the business had been 
shut down in a big hurry. Cell phones were lying around; 
office phones were still connected; and the property of 
dozens of clients remained in the warehouse. 

The owner had also cleared out of his New Jersey home, 
put it up for sale and returned with his family to Israel.
 


 A Scary Situation 

Steven Gordon, the attorney for the five Israeli detainees,
acknowledged that his clients' actions on Sept. 11 would 
easily have aroused suspicions. "You got a group of guys 
that are taking pictures, on top of a roof, of the World 
Trade Center. They're speaking in a foreign language. 
They got two passports on 'em. One's got a wad of cash on 
him, and they got box cutters. Now that's a scary situation.
" 

But Gordon insisted that his clients were just five young 
men who had come to America for a vacation, ended up 
working for a moving company, and were taking pictures of 
the event. 

The five Israelis were held at the Metropolitan Detention 
Center in Brooklyn, ostensibly for overstaying their 
tourist visas and working in the United States illegally. 
Two weeks after their arrest, an immigration judge ordered 
them to be deported. But sources told ABCNEWS that FBI and 
CIA officials in Washington put a hold on the case. 

The five men were held in detention for more than two 
months. Some of them were placed in solitary confinement 
for 40 days, and some of them were given as many as seven 
lie-detector tests. 


'Plenty of Speculation'

Since their arrest, plenty of speculation has swirled about
the case, and what the five men were doing that morning. 
Eventually, The Forward, a respected Jewish newspaper in 
New York, reported the FBI concluded that two of the men 
were Israeli intelligence operatives. 

Vince Cannistraro, a former chief of operations for 
counterterrorism with the CIA who is now a consultant for 
ABCNEWS, said federal authorities' interest in the case 
was heightened when some of the men's names were found in 
a search of a national intelligence database. 


Israeli Intelligence Connection?

According to Cannistraro, many people in the U.S. 
intelligence community believed that some of the men 
arrested were working for Israeli intelligence. 
Cannistraro said there was speculation as to whether Urban 
Moving had been "set up or exploited for the purpose of 
launching an intelligence operation against radical 
Islamists in the area, particularly in the New Jersey-New 
York area." 

Under this scenario, the alleged spying operation was not 
aimed against the United States, but at penetrating or 
monitoring radical fund-raising and support networks in 
Muslim communities like Paterson, N.J., which was one of 
the places where several of the hijackers lived in the 
months prior to Sept. 11. 

For the FBI, deciphering the truth from the five Israelis 
proved to be difficult. One of them, Paul Kurzberg, 
refused to take a lie-detector test for 10 weeks   then 
failed it, according to his lawyer. Another of his lawyers 
told us Kurzberg had been reluctant to take the test 
because he had once worked for Israeli intelligence in 
another country. 

Sources say the Israelis were targeting these fund-raising 
networks because they were thought to be channeling money 
to Hamas and Islamic Jihad, groups that are responsible 
for most of the suicide bombings in Israel. 
"[The] Israeli government has been very concerned about 
the activity of radical Islamic groups in the United 
States that could be a support apparatus to Hamas and 
Islamic Jihad," Cannistraro said.

The men denied that they had been working for Israeli 
intelligence out of the New Jersey moving company, 
and Ram Horvitz, their Israeli attorney, dismissed the 
allegations as "stupid and ridiculous." 

Mark Regev, the spokesman for the Israeli Embassy in 
Washington, goes even further, asserting the issue was 
never even discussed with U.S. officials.

"These five men were not involved in any intelligence 
operation in the United States, and the American 
intelligence authorities have never raised this issue 
with us," Regev said. "The story is simply false." 


No  Pre-Knowledge 

Despite the denials, sources tell ABCNEWS there is still 
debate within the FBI over whether or not the young men 
were spies. Many U.S. government officials still believe 
that some of them were on a mission for Israeli 
intelligence. But the FBI told ABCNEWS, "To date, this 
investigation has not identified anybody who in this 
country had pre-knowledge of the events of 9/11." 

Sources also said that even if the men were spies, there 
is no evidence to conclude they had advance knowledge of 
the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11. The investigation, at 
the end of the day, after all the polygraphs, all of the 
field work, all the cross-checking, the intelligence work, 
concluded that they probably did not have advance knowledge
 of 9/11," Cannistraro noted. 

As to what they were doing on the van, they say they read 
about the attack on the Internet, couldn't see it from 
their offices and went to the parking lot for a better 
view. But no one has been able to find a good explanation 
for why they may have been smiling with the towers of the 
World Trade Center burning in the background. Both the lawyers 
for the young men and the Israeli Embassy chalk it up to 
immature conduct. 

According to ABCNEWS sources, Israeli and U.S. government 
officials worked out a deal   and after 71 days, the five 
Israelis were taken out of jail, put on a plane, and 
deported back home. 

While the former detainees refused to answer ABCNEWS' 
questions about their detention and what they were doing 
on Sept. 11, several of the detainees discussed their 
experience in America on an Israeli talk show after their 
return home. 

Said one of the men, denying that they were laughing or 
happy on the morning of Sept. 11, "The fact of the matter 
is we are coming from a country that experiences terror 
daily. Our purpose was to document the event."

The official in charge of ferreting out information about 
the FBI for a joint congressional intelligence panel 
allegedly obstructed a Justice Department probe of the 
bureau two years ago.

As the FBI's deputy general counsel, Thomas A. Kelley was 
the bureau's point of contact for special counsel John C. 
Danforth's inquiry into the 1993 Waco debacle in which 75 
Branch Davidians died in a fire after a 51-day standoff.

Kelley, who has since retired from the FBI, heads the 
intelligence panel's probe of the bureau's role in 
tracking terrorists before the Sept. 11 attacks.

According to a December 2000 internal FBI memo, Kelley 
"continued to thwart and obstruct" the Waco investigation 
to the point that Danforth was forced to send a team to 
search FBI headquarters for documents Kelley refused to 
turn over. "This non-cooperative spirit was at the specific
direction of [deputy general counsel] Kelley," the memo 
states.

The memo, written by an agent in the bureau's Office of 
Professional Responsibility, is cited in a letter sent to 
the intelligence committee leadership by 
Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa). The letter was obtained 
yesterday by The Washington Post.

"I am concerned that Mr. Kelley is part of this review,
" Grassley wrote.

The letter says that even when Kelley's supervisor recused 
him from dealing with the Waco investigators, 
Kelley "continued to insert himself into the Waco inquiry.
"

Kelley declined to comment yesterday.

The memo says Kelley should have been investigated for 
alleged "unprofessional conduct, poor judgment, conflict 
of interest, hostile work environment and 
retaliation/reprisal" related to his role in the Waco 
investigation. Grassley's letter says Kelley retired 
"before an OPR investigation could proceed."

Grassley, a fierce critic of the FBI who supports 
establishing an independent commission to probe 
intelligence problems, declined to comment.

"The chairman and ranking members are taking it under 
consideration," said Andrea Andrews, spokeswoman for Sen. 
Richard C. Shelby (Ala.), ranking Republican on the Senate 
intelligence committee.

Congressional officials said intelligence panel director 
Eleanor Hill was waiting to obtain confidential memos and 
other documents regarding the allegations against Kelley.

Richard M. Rogers, a Justice Department lawyer familiar 
with Kelley's work and demeanor, called him a "solid" 
person and said he would consider him a benefit to any 
investigation of the FBI. "When you do investigations 
sometimes you need someone on the inside to point you in 
the right direction."

"A lot of people found Tom's manner off-putting, but once 
you got past that, there's a different person," Rogers 
said.

Kelley is part of a 27-person staff hired to do the 
panel's work. The staff has divided into teams. Each 
team has been given a major intelligence agency -- the CIA,
 FBI, National Security Agency -- to probe. Kelley is 
leading the FBI team. The committee has been bogged down by
 internal strife, staffing problems and lack of focus. 
It has also met with resistance to some of its requests 
for documents.

In an interview last year, Danforth, a former senator from 
Missouri who conducted a 14-month investigation into the 
FBI's handling of Waco, faulted the FBI's "spirit of 
resistance" to outside scrutiny. "It was like pulling 
teeth to get all this paper from the FBI," he said.

The Sept. 11 committee put off public hearings, originally 
set to begin next week, until an unspecified date. 
Senators on the panel have been particularly concerned 
that the inquiry is not focused sharply enough. The first 
two weeks of meetings were spent reviewing the history of 
Osama bin Laden's terrorist actions and the U.S. responses 
to it.

This week, after Vice President Cheney upbraided staff 
members for a disclosure of information involving the 
highly secretive NSA, which conducts electronic and 
digital eavesdropping worldwide, the committee asked the 
Justice Department to investigate the source of the news 
stories. The news articles revealed that the NSA had 
intercepted two snippets of conversations in Arabic on 
Sept. 10 from a priority location but did not translate 
them until Sept. 13. In one, the speaker said, "The match 
is about to begin." The other said, "Tomorrow is zero 
hour."

comparision to the "managed" health care insurance fiasco in the 
U.S. Luckily (knock on wood) I have not seen a nightmarish, 
large itemized hospitol bill for some time. But I can say I 
personally know those who have had $5 aspirins. The costs are 
outragous in the U.S., and thus the insurance costs are 
outragous as well. I pay $54 per week (family plan) with my 
employer paying almost double that to boot, for health 
insurance. I have never had a year (thank god) where I have come 
even close to recovering my insurance payments in actual health 
care. But, as the health insurance providers damn well know and 
count on, most working Americans are not going to take the 
chance of going without it. Does the health care/insurance 
system in the U.S. need to be changed? Without a doubt, in my 
opinion.

I don't doubt that doctor choice is as open as you say in New 
Zealand or Sweden, but the revenue for the health care comes 
from somewhere, my GUESS is a high tax rate. Either way, high 
taxes or high insurance costs, the piper will be paid.

don't have a problem with excessive "colatoral damage" against 
peaceful Islamic civilians. The Christian Colalition wants 
christian doctrine made a part of state school curriculum. The 
Christian Coalition opposes peace initiatives between Jews, 
Christians and Muslims. The Christian Coalition defends a number 
of "corporate evils" that both the socialists and capitalists on 
this forum agree are unacceptable practices. Finally, the 
Christian Coalition's policies are not representative of the 
views of most christians.
George Bush Jr is the Christian Coalitions representative in 
parliament. I find it odd that given the things you have said, 
that you would vote for him. Appart from the violence, he seems 
to represent a lot of what you detest.
As for Australian's not suffering that which America does, aside 
from pre september 11, that's a load of ****. Read the history 
of WWII, Nam and the Korean Wars. More Australians have died for 
American causes in war than Americans dying for Australians. 
Australia has followed the US into all of the wars (and peace 
keeping activities) the US has engaged in. The US offered 
minimal support for Australia's initiaive in East Timor. For 
it's efforts, promises of trade aggreements were made and most 
have been broken. America does better out of it's relationship 
(trade wise) than Australia does out of America (largely due to 
the exchange rate). Despite this, Australia still respects it's 
treaties with the US. Since supporting the US, Australia has 
been targeted by Al Queda and terrorism has impacted on 
Australians (several Anthrax attacks). A Whole floor of one of 
the World Trade Centre was home to an Australian corporation 
(Westfield). Numerous Australians were killed at 911.

While we don't get much news coverage, in Australia, Muslims, 
Jews and Christians have been marching together for peace in the 
middle east since well before 911. Ever since Israel's Prime 
Minister was shot all those years back we have been mainly 
protesting about Palestine/Israel. Depending on the protest, you 
can expect sometimes a poor turn out, other times we turn out in 
the thousands (as we have several times in Melbourne). We don't 
have the numbers to turn out in millions I'm afraid, and Ariel 
Sharon has put paid to the few peaceful protests that used to be 
held by Jews/Muslims in Israel/Palastine.
As for protests in the US, the US Muslim community is not as 
prevailant as in areas of Australia. Nor are they as safe (or 
feel as safe) to speak out so loudly. A good place to start 
looking for pro-peace muslim sentiment in the US is in 
the "Migrant Press", especially back-issues dating before 911. 
Since 911, criticism of the US has increased (due to attacks on 
Mosques in the US and harrasment of innocent Muslims - 
particularly women). However, there is still ample condemnation 
of Al Queda, the Taliban and Bin Laden. You can even find the 
occasional criticism of Palestine's current leaders.
Just look throuh the Jewish Press in the US and you will find 
some similar sentiment (from a different perspective of course). 
And just like with all newspapers, you want to get a little 
diversity, there is the chance that the first paper you pick up 
will be a "Die America Die" trash rag. It would also help if you 
can read a couple of middle eastern languages (or find a 
translator - I have to rely on my mate Dave to translate the 
local Australian Jewish press).
Muslim refugees to western countries tend to find violence 
distasteful (which is why we have fled our homelands). We don't 
like to see violence in our new homes (Anthrax scares in 
Australia and 911 in the US) and we wish to see peace for the 
relatives we have left behind. Try and find an Iraqi refugee who 
loves Saddam, and don't forget that some of us "Towel Heads" are 
fighting beside US troops in the war against terror.

PS: To OM/CF, I didn't say that I was against the war against 
terror, but as a supporter (in a democracy), I am entitled to 
question the way in which it is enacted (such as the few 
illegal/suspect acts commited by the US and Afgan freedom 
fighters).

At our local 4th of July fireworks show my family and a few 
freinds sat next to group of Muslims (identified by the girls 
wearing head scarves on a 90 deg. day). I chose sit there partly 
because it was one of the few open spots in the park and partly 
out of selfishness. I was interested to see what the reaction of 
the crowd would be towards them. Reports prior to the 4th had 
been that many Muslims were going to avoid any 4th celebrations 
out of safety concerns. We watched as the younger boys in their 
group played with many other children before the fireworks. When 
the fireworks started they ooohed and aaahed and applauded along 
with everyone. And, during the whole time, not a derisive 
comment was made towards them. This really made the 4th this 
year special and renewed the faith in what America is all about.

That's good news. I was in a supermarket once and an I saw a 
muslim woman with head-dress walking along. Some lowlife was 
eyeing her, smiling, and walked up to her to rip it off her 
head. I, and my father got in his way and glared at him. He 
decided to back off. It just goes to show these racists are 
cowards.

It would probably be safer at a 4th of July fireworks display

health care, I've been doing research.

Some time ago, you stated/implied that people in socialist 
countries, with socialised health care systems didn't get to 
choose there doctors. Untrue. You mentioned Sweden as an 
example, I checked... Wrong again.

The current problems with the Canadian health care system are 
generated by the change to a privatised model (hyperinflation 
of 
insurance costs contiubuting to other expenses thus deminishing 
availability). While Canada's health care system wasn't the 
best 
(reguardless of what system one has, incompetance will screw it 
up), you implication that socialism was the prime cause of it's 
woes was fraudulent.

You also fail to recognise that privatised/capitalist systems 
are still bound by bureacracy (or analogues thereof). To imply 
that bureacracy (or the "paperwork" of) is endemic to socialism 
is again mis-leading. Socialism does not equal extra 
unnecessary 
paperwork. Such things are a function of the managerial system 
in place, be it socialist or capitalist.

A person's diagnosis is a function of the competance of a 
doctor, you may be thinking perhaps of a non-democratic 
communist regime. IF this is the case, AND if you were assuming 
that the said government instigated some special (deceptive)
policy lowering the priority of certain illnesses THEN your 
statement would be true. However, if you were again refereing 
to 
Australia's previous socialised health care system, Sweden's, 
Germany's, New Zealand's etc. then your statement is flat out 
untrue. The proceedure for diagnosis / quality of diagnosis is 
a 
function of science and the hypocratic oath. Diagnosis in the 
said countries only differs (ever so marginally) from the US by 
means of scientific thinking, with no reguards for politics. 
Indeed, the means of diagnosis within Australia fundamentally 
have not changed with the transition from a socialised system.

Again, please qualify/support your suppositions with facts.

As for controling the masses, socialism (ideologically) only 
seeks to control the playing field with obvious complaints from 
minority groups (the rich etc) who lose their unfair advantage. 
While you are yet to provide an example (your examples have 
either been false assumptions or just not an example of 
socialism at work), socialism does screw up, either as a 
funtion 
of incompetance or of non-democratic sentiment. Newsflash, both 
socialist and capitalist regimes are suceptible to these forces 
(albeit through differnt means).

Again, I am not championing socialism, but pointing out that 
you 
don't have your facts strait (quality counterpoint to your 
bias). Your constant reference to the Clintons only serves 3 
purposes:

1) To point out that you can't identify a socialist.
2) A consuming dislike of the Clintons, which exceeds rationale.
3) That your intellectual resources are more likely the lunatic 
fringe than an academic resource.

To OM/CF:

Speaking as an education professional, I can assure you that 
home literacy involving languages other than English is not a 
problem for an adequate education system (but it does present a 
problem for inadequate teachers). ESL (english as a second 
language) doesn't absorb a particularly large amount of money as 
a curriculum either (and ESL student don't present a problem to 
any but the worst of teachers). The amount the US spends on 
education isn't what I'd call adequate for a GOOD education, but 
per capita, the US does better than some other OECD nations.
The problems with the US Education system (ignoring possible 
ethical/constitutional issues) are three fold:

1) Outdated curriculum - Particularly evident in Mathematics, 
where old (vastly inferior) techniques or "drill and practice" 
are being used instead of the newer sucessful "constructivist" 
practices. Consequently, Degree's requiring greater mathematical 
ability are being filled by more foreign (non-american) students 
every year (to meet US demands for these particular graduates). 
American citizens are missing out on oportunities they are 
paying for in taxes, as well as eroding their future 
intellectual base (relative to other nations).

2) Dominance of ageing teaching force - A lot of the curriculum 
changes required simply cannot be achieved by the current 
education workforce. Many older "veterans" (in senior positions) 
are not embrasing newer successful teaching methods and are 
largely restricting the capacity of the newer teachers. This is 
of course not true of many individual "veteran teachers", but 
the effect can be seen in aggregate.

3) Statistical bulge - Many of the older veterans are about to 
retire and the US (and other nations) have a large shortage of 
young teachers. This decrease in supply will greatly increase 
the market value of teacher employment and if the US is to 
succeed in maintaining the levels of class sizes, the government 
will REALLY have to dig deep into the public purse (or spend now 
and educate more teachers - although it is a little late for 
this approach). This is part and parcel of why you will probably 
end up with "SNOT" lecturing economics in one of your 
universities (he's from New Zealand - lock up your sheep).

As for your "speak english or die" approach to the English 
curriculum, I could present you with a number of references 
supporting the idea of a Socio-Cultural view of literacy 
learning if you want. You wouldn't agree with it, not that I'd 
alter my curriculum to accommodate the educational theories of 
someone without education qualifications.

I've seen both of the following posts for the first time (after 
a friend told me to check out the warof911 messageboard). It 
seems that someone is trolling me, and given your "convienient" 
responce (including the acknowledgement of trolling to possibly 
deflect suspicion), it would seem that you are quite the

in the US, as pointed out by BRUCE (lol) affects us all. Due to 
the baby-boomer phenomena (doot-doo-doo-doo-doo), we all will 
have a shortage of teachers one the "oldies" retire. We are all 
in the same boat. However, being in the same boat and not all 
being Australian citizens means we should not stray too close to 
the Australian coastline. They will fire in our general

The biggest problem in the American educational system is 
appeasing all the different minorities. The school district 
where I live was under court mandated supervision for 10 years 
due to a court ruling that Hispanic and black students were 
being discriminated against. Supposedly this happened during a 
period when I was a student in the district and I never once 
witnessed any such discrimination. The court appointed "Master", 
I shit you not, had to approve every expenditure by the 
district. The legal costs to the district ran to over 100 
million dollars. Add to this the costs involved with hiring 
Spanish speaking teachers (god forbide they actually have to 
learn English) and the cost of paying back property tax payer 
money when we (hee, hee) won a lawsuit proclaiming the use of 
TORT money (monies to be used for personnal injury lawsuits) 
illegal.

There in a nutshell, are some of the problems in the American 
educational system. On the bright side, my kid goes to a brand 
new school full of computors and the principle addreses the 
students via large screen TV's in every classroom. Also, its an 
Enviromental magnet school with a focas on enviromental science. 
And, not to brag (ok, bragging), my kid is in 8th grade and has 
had only 2 C's, the rest A's and B's. Also, she speaks Spanish, 
because she knows it buggs the hell out of me!

After having read your posts, I've responded in what I feel was 
in humor.  You must envision me as some huge, sweaty, dirty 
t-shirt-wearing redneck with an arsenal of guns in his house.

  Seriously, do you think I give a fig about any economic 
situation?  No matter who is running what government/economy, the 
little guy like me always gets screwed.  Perhaps the only 
differences between me and those who live in alleged socialist 
nations are the quality of KY lube, and whether or not the

I am really surprised!! There are a few posts above that are 
just BEGGING to start a tirade on the American educational 
system. I've been tempted myself but thanks to iron clade self-
control, I have abstained. But SNOT, whats with you, are you 
going soft? Or, do you really have some class about you?

Well, the flags were getting a tad boring... As for education, 
well, I'd argue that the example you gave was a little flawed. 
With the spanish speaking students, they would learn english 
more easily if they had a teacher that spoke both languages 
(helps to be able to translate you know). In fact, I'd say that 
not having Spanish speaking teachers would degrade the Spanish 
speaking student's learning of English to the point that a 
discrimination case would be warranted (I don't make any 
commentary on the sentence, nor is this a qualified observation)
I haven't done my dip ed yet (and I plan to teach in higher-
education where some of the issues you raised aren't issues), so 
you'ld probably be better of addressing Australian/Bruce.

You will notice that Australian/Bruce hasn't posted for a while.

"Police radio broadcasts 'This was a terrorist attack. Notify 
the Pentagon.' 9:08 a.m."
('Daily News' (New York), 12 September 2001, NEWS SECTION; Pg. 
24: THE TRAGIC TIMELINE, our emphasis)
[Emperor's Clothes note: This was after the first and second 
planes had struck the WTC Towers. The third plane is said to 
have hit the Pentagon 35 minutes later, at 9:43 am.

"In Sarasota, Fla., Bush was reading to children in a classroom 
at 9:05 a.m. when his chief of staff, Andrew Card, whispered 
into his ear. The president briefly turned somber before he 
resumed reading. He addressed the tragedy about a half-hour 
later. " ['AP' 12 September 2001, our emphasis]

"President Bush listened to 18 Booker Elementary School second-
graders read a story about a girl's pet goat Tuesday before he 
spoke briefly and somberly about the terrorist attacks."

HEADLINE: 'Bush hears of attack while visiting Booker' 
[Emperor's Clothes note: The school was Emma E. Booker 
Elementary School in Sarasota, Fla.]

We are not soothsayers. 

We cannot say with certainty what happened September 11 - that 
is, what really happened, behind the scenes. 

But the following report from the semi-official 'N.Y. Times' 
makes it clear that either Americans are being lied to by the 
those in the highest places - which if true has the gravest 
implications - or else the rulers of Washington's New World 
Order are criminally negligent. 

In analyzing the 9-11 nightmare, we were puzzled by the official 
response to the so-called third plane. That is the one that left 
Dulles Airport, flew to Ohio, near the West Virginia and 
Kentucky borders, turned around, flew back to Washington and 
struck the Pentagon. 

Concerning this plane, we asked: how could it stay in the air, 
hijacked, for almost an hour after two other hijacked planes had 
struck the WTC Towers, and not be seen by U.S. air defense 
forces? How could it fly to the Midwest, turn around and fly 
back to Washington and hit the Pentagon without being spotted 
and therefore intercepted?

The 'N.Y. Times' published the following explanation: 

"During the hour or so that American Airlines Flight 77 was 
under the control of hijackers, up to the moment it struck the 
west side of the Pentagon, military officials in a command 
center on the east side of the building were urgently talking to 
law enforcement and air traffic control officials about what to 
do.

"But despite elaborate plans that link civilian and military 
efforts to control the nation's airspace in defense of the 
country, and despite two other jetliners' having already hit the 
World Trade Center in New York, the fighter planes that 
scrambled into protective orbits around Washington did not 
arrive until 15 minutes after Flight 77 hit the Pentagon." 
( 'N.Y. Times,' Sept. 15, 2001)

This explanation makes matters worse.

If it was difficult to believe that the third plane was not 
spotted, then it is a good deal harder to believe that it was 
spotted and tracked for over half an hour and yet nothing was 
done because officials "didn't know what to do." 

Why didn't they force the plane down and failing that, shoot it 
down? Before you think, "Because, as the article says, they 
didn't have a procedure for handling such an occurrence," note 
the following comment from deputy defense secretary Wolfowitz. 
Talking about the fourth plane, the one that crashed in 
Pennsylvania:

"Paul Wolfowitz, the deputy defense secretary, said today that 
the Pentagon had been tracking that plane and could have shot it 
down if necessary; it crashed about 35 minutes after the 
Pentagon crash." ('N.Y. Times, Sept. 15, 2001)

"Could have shot it down if necessary."

If they "could have shot" down the fourth plane, why did they 
not shoot down the third? Once they knew these were suicide 
hijackings - and surely they knew that by around 9:00 am - why 
would they wait?

And why, if they really were confused about what to do, why, 
after the Commander in Chief was informed about what was 
happening, didn't he immediately convene an emergency meeting to 
discuss the issue? Why did he keep reading to children and 
listening to stories about goats while the 3rd plane flew 
towards Washington? 

Officials knew the first and second planes had hit highly 
visible symbols of US power. They knew this third plane was 
heading back to Washington. Couldn't they be reasonably sure 
that the target was a symbol of US power in Washington? Then why 
didn't they fully evacuate the Pentagon?

The White House has tried to confuse the issue regarding this 
question. They claim the Plane changed course - that originally 
it was heading for the White House:

"Top government officials have suggested that American Airlines 
Flight 77 was originally headed for the White House and possibly 
circled the Capitol building." (CBS News, Sept. 21, 2001, 
http://www.cbsnews.com/now/story/0,1597,310721-412,00.shtml)

But according to CBS, this is not the case:

"CBS News Transportation Correspondent Bob Orr reports that's 
not what the recorded flight path shows." (ibid.)


Says CBS: 

"Eight minutes before the crash, at 9:30 a.m. EDT, radar tracked 
the plane as it closed to within 30 miles of Washington. Sources 
say the hijacked jet continued east at a high speed toward the 
city, but flew several miles south of the restricted airspace 
around the White House. 

"At 9:33 the plane crossed the Capitol Beltway and took aim on 
its military target. But the jet, flying at more than 400 mph, 
was too fast and too high when it neared the Pentagon at 9:35. 
The hijacker-pilots were then forced to execute a difficult high-
speed descending turn. 

"Radar shows Flight 77 did a downward spiral, turning almost a 
complete circle and dropping the last 7,000 feet in two-and-a-
half minutes. 

"The steep turn was so smooth, the sources say, it's clear there 
was no fight for control going on. And the complex maneuver 
suggests the hijackers had better flying skills than many 
investigators first believed. 

"The jetliner disappeared from radar at 9:37 and less than a 
minute later it clipped the tops of street lights and plowed 
into the Pentagon at 460 mph." (ibid.)

The White House denies this:

"At the White House Friday, spokesman Ari Fleischer saw it a 
different way.

"That is not the radar data that we have seen," Fleischer said, 
adding, "The plane was headed toward the White House." (ibid.)

If the White House is right and CBS is wrong, why did 
the 'Times' report that:

"During the hour or so that American Airlines Flight 77 was 
under the control of hijackers, up to the moment it struck the 
west side of the Pentagon, military officials in a command 
center on the east side of the building were urgently talking to 
law enforcement and air traffic control officials about what to 
do." ('N.Y. Times,' Sept. 15, 2001)

Given the stories from CBS and the 'Times,' and given that the 
plane did in fact hit the Pentagon, aren't the news reports more 
believable than the White House denial?

And since in any case there could be no way of being absolutely 
sure where the plane would strike, why weren't all the most 
sensitive buildings evacuated to prevent: 

"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Up to 800 people may have died Tuesday when 
a hijacked commercial airliner was crashed into the Pentagon, 
officials said. 

"Firefighters were still battling a fire on the west side of the 
29-acre, 6 million-square-foot building late Tuesday, more than 
12 hours after the crash. Washington hospitals reported 71 
people injured, some severely, and another 100 to 800 were still 
listed as missing and possibly dead late Tuesday. " (CNN at

And why wasn't this plane, the third plane, forced down or 
failing that, shot down?

Regarding the fourth plane:

"Asked if rules of engagement would have allowed the Air Force 
to shoot the plane down, [deputy defense secretary] Wolfowitz 
said: 'I think it was pretty clear at that point that that 
airliner was not under the pilot's control and that it was 
heading to do major damage.' 

"He said any military intervention would have ultimately been 
the decision of President George W. Bush.... 

"Forty minutes passed between the time New York's second World 
Trade Center tower was struck and another commandeered plane 
crashed into the Pentagon..."

A) Officials knew that the third plane, and quite possibly the 
second, was set to strike important targets.

B) They tracked the third plane for at least half an hour.

C) Supposedly George Bush, Jr. needed to approve shooting the 
plane down.

D) But instead of going into an emergency meeting, he continued 
his visit to an elementary school, hearing about goats.

What we have here is either criminal negligence beyond belief, 
and that includes the Commander in Chief, who hearing that 
planes are destroying the country focuses on goats, or b) 
the 'N.Y. Times' piece is repeating a cover story whose purpose 
is to explain away the obvious flaw in the original story: 
namely, that a plan could be hijacked in Ohio, and fly all the 
way back to Washington without being spotted.

And if the 'N.Y. Times' story is a lie, then those who fed 
the 'Times' this lie are guilty of conspiracy. They are people 
in high places and they are directly involved in the murder of 
God knows how many people in N.Y. as well as the 800 casualties 
the media speaks of in Washington either because they planned 
these attacks, perhaps working through Islamist groups secretly 
controlled by the CIA or they knew the attacks were going to 
happen and wanted to let them happen. The obvious motive: to 
create a seeming justification for extreme military action. And 
that is why they did not allow the Air Force to stop possibly 
the second and certainly the third planes.

So there you have it - either criminal negligence, including Mr. 
Bush who reads about goats while his countrymen are slaughtered, 
or treason. 

Given these amazing facts, available in the mainstream media, 
why is there no call for an investigation?

Mr. Bush has called for bringing those responsible to justice. 
Let us begin at home.

world will come face to face with final annihilation.  Here, he 
implies that the war might involve some kind of horrible weapon,

     Fire approaches the great new city. 

In this phrase, Nostradamus refers to a great city in the new 
world of America near forty-five degrees latitude.  Experts 
agree this could only be New York. 

     By fire he will destroy their city, 
     A cold and cruel heart, 
     Blood will pour, 
     Mercy to none.  (Guentte) 

    Although Nostradamus 's predictions for our future sound 
frightening he does give us some hope by telling us how this 
third world war will end.  He says it will end as a result of an 
unexpected alliance. 

     When those of the Northern Pole are united, 
     In the East will be great fear and dread... 
     One day the two great leaders will be friends; 
     Their great powers will be seen to grow. 
     The New Land will be at the height of its power: 
     To the man of blood the number is reported. 

The new land was a common term used by Nostradamus to refer to

pole could be Russia and the United States~*AMEN*~.  We have 
recently seen the breakdown of Communism in Russia and an

This is very good statement! Laws, on top of laws, on top of 
laws that can't begin to be enforced. Its insanity! A liberal 
group of judges decides the word "God" must be stricken from the 
pledge while other judges give the A-OK to more property seziure

being taken, and there is not a damn thing the average citizen 
can do about it. But, God forbide we even consider profiling

United States Loses Fight to Block U.N. Vote on Torture 
Convention

UNITED NATIONS (AP) -- The United States failed to block a U.N. 
vote Wednesday on a plan to enforce a treaty on torture, and its 
attempts to do so were widely criticized by European and Latin 
American allies.

Among U.S. concerns was language that could allow for 
international and independent visits to U.S. prisons and to 
terror suspects being held by the U.S. military at Guantanamo 
Bay Naval Base in Cuba. Such visits are unlikely unless the 
United States chooses to adopt the plan, known as a protocol, 
which seeks to enforce the 1989 treaty against torture.

The objective of the protocol is ``to establish a system of 
regular visits undertaken by independent and national bodies to 
places where people are deprived of their liberty, in order to 
prevent torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment 
and punishment.''

The protocol to the treaty passed late Wednesday by a vote of 35-
8 with 10 abstentions in the U.N. Economic and Social Council. 
The United States abstained.

A U.S. proposal to reopen 10 years of negotiations on the 
document was voted down 29-15 with eight abstentions.

Denmark, which read a statement on behalf of the European Union, 
accused the United States of intentionally stalling in order to 
kill the proposal. Costa Rica, which sponsored the plan, ``urged 
all delegations to vote against,'' the American request to 
reopen negotiations.

Human rights advocates and diplomats argued that the protocol 
was essential to enforce the international convention on torture 
passed 13 years ago and since ratified by about 130 countries, 
including the United States. Countries are supposed to enforce 
the convention on their own, but rights groups argue that that 
isn't working everywhere.

People were tortured or ill-treated by authorities in 111 
countries last year, according to an Amnesty International 
report.

Technically, the protocol seeks visits to prisons as a way to 
help enforce the anti-torture convention, which the United 
States has ratified.

But the United States said elements of the plan were 
incompatible with the U.S. constitution. Privately, U.S. 
diplomats said allowing outside observers into state prisons 
would infringe on states' rights.

``The United States greatly regrets being put in the position of 
abstaining,'' U.S. Ambassador Sichan Siv said after the debate.

The protocol was widely supported among Western European and 
Latin American countries. The United States was supported by 
some countries accused by Amnesty International of torture, 
including Nigeria and Iran. Other U.S. support came from Japan, 
China, Cuba, Cyprus, India, Pakistan and Egypt.

The text was accepted in an April vote by the Human Rights 
Commission in Geneva. The United States didn't participate in 
that vote because it lost its seat on the commission last year.

The protocol now moves to the General Assembly where it would 
need to be approved by a majority of the 190 member states. 
Then, it will require 20 ratifications before it can go into 
force.

Activists had feared that if the United States succeeded in 
reopening the negotiations, it would mean a ``death sentence'' 
for the protocol.

Joanna Weschler of Human Rights Watch, said: ``This is actually 
a great vote because the U.S. tried and failed.''

Decisions by the Bush administration to back out of a protocol 
on climate control and talks on biological weapons have greatly 
frustrated its relationships at the United Nations.

On Monday, the administration cut support for the U.N. 
Population Fund, accusing the agency of sending money to Chinese 
agencies that carry out coercive programs involving abortion. 
The agency denies the accusation and a U.S. government fact-
finding mission found no evidence that agency money was being 
used in such a way.

Reality = What is in the outside world.

Perception = Our (sometimes selective) interpretation of reality.

People say that Reality is subjective. It is not. Choosing to

American. The US funded the creation of the Manhattan project

laws then any country in the word excepting those with a 
complete ban on firearm ownership. Guess what? Criminals don't

their guns at Walmart, they don't give a hoot about FOID cards,

at atheists or Muslims. I'm a Catholic(the most popular form of 
Christianity). We believe that life is sacred any nobody has the

against killing him. As you can see, this is very different from 
the Muslim belief that killing for God will reward you with 72 
virgins. Sure my religion had lots of mistakes in the middle 
ages with the Crusades, and the Inquisiton, but those times are 
past. We now set up missionaries to peacfully convert. Oh, and 
if you don't believe in the all-powerful God, then how could 
heaven exist? I don't really get it. Do you think that you will 
go to a great place when you die for all the good things you 
have done(ie. mocking God by calling him a child's story Wizard)?

I do not intend to poke fun at any particular religious 
beuracracy, I intend to poke fun at all of them! Im just 
brokering for the best afterlife deal I can get, comparison 
shopping so to speak. I believe in a God who has a sense of 
humor, after all HE knows our thoughts and intentions, not some

If god does exist, he should reveal himself so as to give people 
a chance to repent, and to know which religion among the 
multitudes is correct so as not to waste their time.

Religion is based on FAITH. What better way is there to seperate 
the believers from the non-believers than not revealing 
everthing? Personnaly I believe at the moment of death the 
spirit leaves the body and no living person can say for sure 
where it goes. American Indian religion supports a Great Spirit 
that cares for Earth and all its creatures as much as its human 
inhabitants. Only Earth and sky last forever, this is what I 
believe. Live every day as if its your last.

Muslims aren't as organised as you think and neither myself nor 
my (muslim) family go around converting people to our religion. 
People like Osama (or Saddam) aren't killing to convert, they 
have other purely political agendas. Palestinians aren't trying 
to convert Jews by suicide bombing, they are (quite ineptly) 
trying to stop Isreal from killing them in their homes (not 
exactly the best way to go about it). A few crackpot regimes 
based on muslim beliefs go about killing others in the name of 
the faith, but these crakpots aren't the majority.

Most of the violence that muslims get involved in is socio-
political and not really religeous. It seems every looney seems 
to claim god is on their side - Saddam, Bin Laden, Tomas De 
Torquemada, George Bush Jr. The choise of god seems purely 
circumstantial.

God did reveal himself to us. 2000 years ago was the most famous 
form of it. Jesus. Since then there have been countless saints, 
and holy people who work with the inspiration of God. om/cf put 
it perfectly...you must have faith, it is hard at times, but
